Since its founding in 1999, Jellycat has consistently upheld “responsible sourcing” as one of its core principles, permeating every aspect of our collaboration with suppliers and manufacturing partners. We deeply understand that suppliers and manufacturers are key partners in bringing Jellycat’s original, exquisite, and creative products to fans worldwide. Therefore, we are committed to ensuring that all Jellycat products are made with high-quality materials and produced in safe, compliant, and ethical environments.
We maintain long-term partnerships with a select group of specialized suppliers and manufacturers, some of whom have been with us since the brand’s inception. We continuously invest in and support the development of our manufacturing facilities and fabric factories, believing that stable, long-term partnerships foster sustainable growth for all parties.
Jellycat is dedicated to protecting the rights and well-being of all workers in our supply chain. We only partner with suppliers who share our values and demonstrate transparency, and we conduct a comprehensive evaluation of each supplier before placing an order, including on-site visits by the Jellycat team and third-party social responsibility audits.
We require all partners to strictly comply with relevant international regulations and standards, including the UK’s Modern Slavery Act, Germany’s Supply Chain Due Diligence Obligations Act, the US California Supply Chain Transparency Act, Australia’s Modern Slavery Act, Canada’s Anti-Forced and Child Labor Supply Chain Act, and the EU’s soon-to-be-enacted Forced Labor Regulation. We will continuously update this list to comply with newly enacted laws and regulations globally.
Jellycat has developed a Code of Responsible Sourcing and a Supplier Code of Conduct, which all partners are required to strictly adhere to. These guidelines are based on ILO conventions, international ethical trade norms, and national transparent supply chain and anti-slavery regulations. If national or local laws conflict with Jellycat’s guidelines, the higher standard should always be followed to protect workers’ rights. We only accept production units that have passed independent third-party compliance audits.
Suppliers must ensure voluntary employment, free from forced labor and modern slavery, respect for freedom of association and collective bargaining rights, provide a safe and hygienic working environment, strictly prohibit child labor, pay legal and subsistence wages, arrange reasonable working hours, prohibit discrimination, provide stable employment relationships, prohibit any form of corporal punishment or verbal abuse, ensure the safety and hygiene of dormitories, canteens, and childcare facilities, control and reduce environmental impact, and strictly prohibit bribery and corruption.
All suppliers are required to undergo an independent third-party social responsibility audit annually. We consider this an important way to monitor compliance and a benchmark for continuous improvement by our partners. If issues are identified in the audit, we will work with the supplier to develop a corrective action plan to assist in improvements and prevent recurrence. For zero-tolerance issues such as child labor, forced labor, human trafficking, modern slavery, falsified accounting, or bribery, Jellycat will immediately suspend shipments and intervene to rectify the situation until the problem is completely resolved.
We actively share best practices to drive continuous optimization of the supply chain. Starting in 2024, Jellycat established a dedicated CSR team, stationed at the manufacturing base, to continuously monitor on-site conditions even outside of audit periods. We collaborate with third parties on capacity-building programs to strengthen our management systems and reduce non-compliance risks. Through regular training, experience sharing, and technical support, we encourage suppliers to continuously improve their management practices.
Jellycat partners with LRQA to conduct in-depth annual assessments of all our suppliers. Based on daily on-site observations and audit results, we develop plans to help suppliers improve production efficiency, reduce working hours, and enhance employee rights.
Jellycat products strictly comply with toy safety regulations, including children’s toy safety standards in the UK, EU, US, and Canada. All products are tested according to EN71, ASTM F963, ISO 8124, and GB 6675 standards and undergo annual retesting by third-party laboratories. Our internal safety standards exceed legal requirements, ensuring our products are safe and harmless for infants and young children.
Each Jellycat plush toy is designed as a “long-lasting companion.” We implement rigorous quality and lifespan testing at every stage of development and production to ensure product durability and minimize environmental impact. Most products can be machine washed in a household washing machine at a maximum temperature of 30°C; large items can be hand-washed or cleaned with a sponge; products containing structural or musical components should be surface-cleaned with a damp cloth.
Jellycat regularly tests all fabrics to ensure compliance with REACH, Toy Safety Directive, California Prop 65, CPSIA, and other regulations, exceeding age-appropriate standards. We also proactively monitor emerging chemical restrictions and substances of consumer concern. All fabrics are custom-made, high-quality materials, and dyes comply with Oeko-Tex Standard 100. The primary material is polyester fiber, and we are actively evaluating the feasibility of recycled polyester while ensuring that chemical and safety standards are not compromised. Some products use cotton or blended fabrics, complying with the U.S. Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, and are gradually adopting traceable organic cotton raw materials. Fillings, plastic beads, sewing thread, and decorative tape are regularly tested to ensure quality and chemical safety.
We continuously collaborate with suppliers to optimize raw material utilization, employ laser cutting technology to reduce waste, and strengthen quality control to reduce scrap rates. Rejected products will be reworked, used for quality training, or donated to charities. We have also completely eliminated single-use plastic bags and tags, using recyclable packaging materials and recycled plastic for shipping bags. All paper products and cards are FSC certified or made from recycled materials, ensuring the sustainable sourcing of wood.
Jellycat is committed to respect, human-centered design, and sustainability. Through continuous improvement and transparent collaboration, we ensure that every Jellycat doll is created responsibly from raw materials to finished product. Our goal is to make cuteness and responsibility go hand in hand, extending gentle companionship not only to the product but also to every step of the careful manufacturing process.
